Purchased this antique print a few weeks ago and I immediately knew I wanted to clean it up. Brought it home and removed all the gouges and scratches from the frame and refinished it. Cleaned up the glass ▶️ reframed ▶️ ready for the shop!

Some cool info on it, as well. The original was painted by Rosa Bonheur, who had to dress like a man so she could sketch at the horse fair without being bothered by men. It was a different time back then🫠

People often are shocked by the pricing of some of my lighting, and today is a perfect example of why this is the case.

I purchased a fixer-upper this past weekend for $60. "Wow, Corbett. How can you justify charging so much for a chandelier if you only spent $60?!"

Well....let's take a look. The chandelier came in a box that claimed "all parts included." In my experience, this has never happened. It's usually a box of random parts or a bunch of broken pieces. Like this one, which was a mixture of both! Exciting!

See those glass leaves sticking out around the ring of the chandelier? Yea....I'm missing a bunch. Matching those is nearly impossible. So, I can replace them, no big deal.

See all the crystal beads? There are a ton there....but most are missing. I'll just replace those as well.

So, to recap. I need new crystal leaves and crystal chains. I've spent the greater portion of my day just researching and pricing the best options. The lowest cost I've found for those parts alone?

$510

That's just for the pretty stuff. This doesn't include the new sockets, wiring, chain, etc.

Add all that up and then factor in labor because I need to make a living doing this, and I'm not quite at the point where I can do this as a charitable act. So next time you're shopping small, please think about this before scoffing at the price or asking for a discount. I'm not a multi-billion dollar corporation. I'm a guy buying old "junk" because while it's fun to restore them, I'm trying to make a living like the rest of us.

I purchased this piece modern art and put it in this gold gilt frame because I love the look of modern vs. classic. Then, I decided to research the artist, and I found him!

We exchanged some emails about his work, and they shared with me that they were diagnosed with Parkinsons six years ago. He took up painting as a form of therapy to help him maintain his motor skills, and he said it has been life changing. Parkinson’s has a different effect on many, but for him, it "turned on a love for arts, color, and the beauty in things that I previously overlooked."

Amazingly, this man takes the proceeds of his art and donates it to Parkinsons research. So, I have decided to sell this piece in my shop and donate a portion of the sale to Parkinsons research as well.

Anyway, I'll leave you with some words he wrote on the back of the painting, which he titled "When you have reached your limit."

"Sometimes, life presents itself in such a manner you feel lost and overwhelmed. Remember, you always have more. Others depend on it."

In between lighting projects, I've been working on a renovation at home. Today, I finally installed the floor outlet (that I purchased three years ago) so I could plug a lamp into this alcove. Outlet installed.....and the perfect lamp put into place. Special thanks to @bluebutterflystore for supplying the lamp. I'm obsessed!

Hello! I've been out of order for a while due to some medical reasons, but I'm back! I have a few projects in the works, but today, I decided to focus on some custom lamps I'm making out of these antique andirons. The wooden bases for the lamps have been cut, but now it's time to finish them up so I can modify the brass andirons and assembled.

I also have a few chandelier projects in the background in the works, so there will be some new posts on them soon!
